Members of the platform have expressed outrage due to a modification that led to listings displaying inaccurate size information.
The popular resale platform has updated its measurement guidelines for female and kids' apparel without notifying all users about the change.
Online Platforms Backlash
Countless users and merchants are expressing on platforms saying Vinted listings now show a different size category than originally posted as a result of the reclassification.
The company said the new system was more in line with other platforms.
The platform has recommended to review their products and manually change the size when needed, which has left users frustrated.
Size Classification Modifications
Previously, the measurements included a single numeric size and a letter, such as S/8 or M/10.
The updated approach includes an alphabetical indicator and numerical range like S/UK 8-10.
For certain items, the sizing has been recategorised - such as a large size was formerly size 12 but is now a UK 16-18.
User Stories
A fashion influencer, who makes TikTok content about plus-size fashion, said the change "makes both selling and buying harder".
"Few clothing companies classify XL as 20-22," which is what Vinted now does.
Another user, based in Glasgow, explained products she uploaded featuring size 14 markings were displaying on the service as larger sizing 20-22.
"If buyers measuring 20-22 acquire them they will likely be quite upset," she explained.
Required Changes
A different user, based in Derby, stated she felt frustrated because the modification necessitated personal updates the sizing for "all her products".
"Personally, this is quite irritating, since I have chronic health issues and Vinted sales have been crucial for me since losing part of my income," she said.
Platform Context
The app has more than 100 million members, including 18 million in the UK.
It has emerged as a preferred choice to second-hand platforms like eBay and Depop.
This represents another occasion where an unanticipated change within the service has received backlash: earlier, Vinted reversed a change concerning shipment methods due to shopper criticism.
