The Porcine Pardon: Hog Named 6-7 Spared by Miami Dade County Leader.
Although not quite at the identical stature as pardoning festive fowl, but the county's top official conducted a ceremonial pardon event this week by ceremoniously saving the life of a swine named Six Seven.
Daniella Levine Cava carried out the annual tradition at the Cuban-themed Latin Cafe 2000 in the core of Miami’s iconic Little Havana neighborhood.
“This animal is guiltless. She deserves this act of mercy. No offenses are on her docket,” declared Levine Cava in a speech with obvious nods to the vast quantity of pardons issued from the start of the onset of a new presidential term.
“Unless you count eating 6 or 7 apples per day,” Levine Cava continued. “Let this swine have a long and happy life away from worry.”
The event, which both honors and questions the area's customary feast of feasting on pork during the holidays, was created to mirror the annual turkey pardoning at the White House.
The pig, contributed by a first responder, was given its name from the modern linguistic fad of young people yelling “6-7” – originating from a musical verse – often without clear purpose. The trend became so ubiquitous that a leading lexicon site recently declared “six-seven” its 2025 word of the year.
A Peaceful Retirement
Six Seven the pig is now destined to live out its days at a farm sanctuary “far from charcoal and roasting pans”, according to the ceremony's official statement.
“The pig pardon has become one of our favorite ways to kick off the festive period,” said Eric Castellanos, in a decidedly positive message.
“It embodies the spirit of Miami: vibrant, varied, and grounded in customs that bring people together. Every time, we are delighted to mark heritage and mercy in a way only Miami can.”
Guests enjoyed a plant-based fare of spinach croquetas and Cuban coffee as they toasted the pig's pardon.
