The Details Known Regarding the Those Lost of the Bondi Beach Terror Attack
A minimum of 16 lives lost their lives and in excess of 40 were hurt when attackers shot at a Hanukah event at Bondi Beach, a tragedy Australian police have labeled a act of terrorism.
In the latest update, authorities have confirmed the death toll is 16, encompassing one of the suspected attackers. Moreover, 42 people with injuries were taken to the hospital.
The victims have not yet been formally identified, but investigators think their ages are between 10 and 87 years old.

London-born clergyman Eli Schlanger, 41, was initially identified.
Reportedly a father of five children, he worked as the associate rabbi at a local Jewish cultural centre. Family members and friends spoke of him as âlively, dynamic, and vibrant and a very kind and sociable person who was dedicated to assisting othersâ.
âHow is it possible that a joyful rabbi who went to a beach to spread happiness and light, to make the world a better place, lose his life in this way?â a relative asked.
Schlanger and his wife celebrated the birth of their newest son in October.
Alexander Kleytman
Alexander Kleytman was also confirmed among the deceased, as stated by his wife.
She recounted the events leading up to the attack, stating they were standing when the shooting started. âHe shielded me because he wished to be near me,â she recalled.
The pair were both Holocaust survivors, having endured unspeakable terror in their youth. They had later immigrated to Australia from Eastern Europe.
Dan Elkayam
French authorities have confirmed that French national Dan Elkayam is a casualty.
In a statement, the Foreign Minister declared that France stood with his family and loved ones, the Jewish community, and the Australian people.
âThis despicable act is a new, tragic manifestation of a revolting outpouring of antisemitic hatred that we must put a stop to,â the message continued.
One Child
A child who was rushed to the a children's hospital has been confirmed among the fatalities, according to police reports.
One Israeli Citizen
An Israeli citizen was a fatality during the attack, according to multiple sources citing the Israeli foreign ministry.
Those Injured
From the 42 people taken to hospitals, many remain receiving treatment, with five in critical condition. The injured include two officers who responded to the attack.
A wounded man is a member of the public who rushed to the scene to confront one of the attackers. Called a hero, he sustained gunshot wounds but is recovering well in hospital.
Arsen Ostrovsky
Among the injured is Arsen Ostrovsky, a public affairs professional. Reports indicate he was wounded and underwent treatment in hospital.
Communicating, he recounted the scene as an âhorrific scene,â but also praised the actions of those who came to assist. He stated he felt it was a âstroke of luckâ he survived.
Evan Zlatkis
Evan Zlatkis, a community director, was also injured in the shooting. He said he listened to âa large numberâ of shots.
âI thought it was rubber bullets, but it penetrated my own skin and into my leg,â he explained. âI sustained a gunshot wound. I received first aid. Iâm ok.â
