Manchester United Set to Secure Germany Striker Lea Schüller away from Bayern Munich

The Women's Super League club are finalising completing the signing for prolific German forward Lea Schüller in a permanent move from Bayern Munich.

A Major Signing for United

The forward, with half a year left on her deal, is known as a prolific goalscorer for her club and the national team. She has netted over 100 goals for the German giants and scored 54 times in 82 appearances for her country. Her arrival is viewed as a major signing for the WSL team.

Departure from Munich was expected after she was seen holding back emotions while applauding the German club’s fans after a win over Bayer Leverkusen this month.

It was reported in late December that the German women's top flight was losing one of its leading forwards. According to reports, the formalities for the move have now been completed.

Consistent Goal Threat to Strengthen the Forward Line

The experienced striker's arrival is expected to provide a significant uplift to United’s forward line. Schüller has been highly reliable with her finishing in Germany’s top flight.

  • Over seven straight seasons, including the last term, she achieved at least a double-digit tally of league goals.
  • She claimed the top scorer award in 2021-22 season with 16 goals.

Building Steam at Old Trafford

Securing the German international comes at a time when the club seem to be gathering momentum.

Their recent on-pitch successes include securing a place in the Champions League knockout phase playoffs in a seeded position and a win in the Conti Cup quarter-finals.

Off the pitch, the mid-season window has seen additional business:

  1. The acquisition of Sweden defender Hanna Lundkvist on a multi-year deal.
  2. The new deal for Japanese playmaker Hinata Miyazawa, a fan favourite since joining in 2023.

On the midfielder's extension, a club official stated: “Miyazawa is now a critical component to the way we play. Her understanding of the game and technical ability allows her and the team to control and dictate play from the middle of the park.”

The new defender, having joined from a side from the American league, said: “You can sense how much they [United] have progressed in the last few years, playing in one of the most competitive leagues in the world and performing in the Champions League.”
