Maddie McCann's twin siblings, Sean and Amelie, have told the court that their interactions with an accused stalker were extremely disturbing and creepy. The siblings explained feeling stressed and scared by a woman who claimed she was their long-lost sister.

Persistent Contact Detailed as Frightening

Appearing via video link, she described how the accused, the 24-year-old, contacted her multiple times through social media and written correspondence. Amelie explained the persistence was quite frightening since you don’t know what her next move might be.

Communications from Wandelt were read in the trial, in which she recounted recollections of being in the family home that she claimed were recalled during hypnotherapy. Amelie told the court, It's very disturbing that she's inventing these supposed memories, despite the fact she isn't Madeleine.

Fabricated Pictures Heightened Unease

Jurors heard that the accused had created images of Amelie and herself as children, which the state alleged were made with AI tools. Some of these images were transmitted through social media, while additional ones were produced physically and enclosed in a mail to her.

She stated, I didn’t like it, it caused me to feel very uncomfortable. It was evident she edited the pictures to make me appear similar to her, which was quite disturbing. I knew I didn't resemble that, I understood it had been manipulated.

Psychological Toll on the Family

Amelie also spoke about the effect of the alleged stalking on her parent, their mother, who testified about being approached at her residence by the defendant and her alleged accomplice, Karen Spragg.

In my opinion my mum experienced it as the most difficult. She was targeted by Julia more than the rest of us and I believe it definitely had a negative effect on her and her wellbeing, she said. It’s upsetting when someone’s pleading with you to accept their claims and playing with your feelings, to the point you are questioning yourself.

Brother's Statement on Stress and Online Scrutiny

In a witness statement presented to the court, Sean McCann stated that personally, he had not been too badly affected by Wandelt's accused stalking. However he had been upset that she was attracting social media scrutiny, with people saying hurtful and unjust things about his mother and father.

In the event that Wandelt was not mentally ill and was completely conscious she is not Maddie, yet makes these claims, that would be very upsetting for me, he said. I am convinced she is my sister. The reality that the defendant is engaging in this behavior has resulted in a significant amount of stress and I consider it deeply disturbing.

Wandelt and her co-defendant deny stalking the family household. The trial are ongoing.
