The former Australian Test cricketer Damien Martyn is in hospital and put into a medically induced coma after being diagnosed with meningitis.

Critical Health Battle Revealed

Martyn, aged 54, “is in for the fight of his life”, as stated by ex-AFL star Brad Hardie, who disclosed Martyn’s health situation on Tuesday.

“Let’s hope he can recover because it’s really serious,” stated Hardie.

Martyn remains in a serious condition after falling ill on Boxing Day and being taken to a hospital in Queensland, according to sources close to the family.

Meningitis is inflammation of the membranes that surround the brain and spinal cord.

An Illustrious Cricket Career

Martyn is considered one of Australia’s most talented batters, playing 67 Tests and amassing 4,406 Test runs for an average of 46.37 between 1992 and 2006.

His not out 88 in the 2003 World Cup final – with a broken finger – helped Australia secure victory over India.

Martin retired suddenly during the 2005-06 Ashes series in England following difficulties in the first couple of Tests.

A former teammate Darren Lehmann urged Martyn to “keep strong” via social media, as the cricket world began to react well wishes.
